Always, Always There Was Joe, but my heart was so unwise.
Though you didn’t let it show, I could see it in your eyes.
Oh, there were times, my dear, that it seemed to me your love was drawing near,
But your thoughts would always go drifting back again to Joe.

Though I tried to make you care, still you wished that he was there.
Although I was by your side, it did nothing for my pride.
And though you want me now, I can’t help it if my heart has cooled somehow.
