Ashes One The Ground |
by C. Carson Parks |
I’ve tried to understand just what happened to the flame And why, although we try, it is somehow not the same It was great for a while And the mem’ry makes me smile But the warmth that was there I just can’t reclaim (can’t reclaim) I’ve tried to understand just what made us drift apart, And why, although we try, I still feel empty in my heart. We had a ball, we had it all But the thrill I can’t recall, And Maybe now’s the time for us to part. But I know without a doubt That we burned each other out An attack with no retreat We burned up with too much heat. Like a fireworks display We just let it blaze away Now the passions that we found Are just ashes on the ground. And I know without a doubt That we burned each other out Like a fire in the wheat We burned up with too much heat. Just as though we both agreed To fulfill each other’s need Now the passions that we found Are just ashes on the ground Like a rocket in the night We were burning in the light And the love that we had found Is only ashes on the ground. |
